CTD Proud to Support the NASA James Webb Space Telescope
13 January 2022
CTD’s participation in the recent successful launch of the NASA James Webb Space Telescope demonstrates CTD’s unique ability to characterize materials for use in cryogenic applications through our novel understanding of composite material properties in harsh and challenging environments. CTD has a reputation of characterizing and delivering both mechanical and thermal performance for composite materials for a wide range of markets, including aerospace, scientific, and medical markets.
In support of the James Webb Space Telescope, CTD performed material characterization leveraging our Testing Services capabilities to ensure the various metal alloys utilized on this complex spacecraft would perform in space throughout the mission of this spacecraft. CTD is the only pure commercial enterprise capable of performing these cryogenic mechanical tests to the NASA CryoFlex testing protocol, and we continue to perform these tests for customers in the space market every year. The team at CTD is proud to be an important contributor on this project and looks forward to continuing to support the big ideas as the space community advances material science research for the Lunar Gateway, Mars Habitat, and beyond!
